Capucine shares what TARA means to her
A personal story of discovery, commitment and transformation through volunteering with TARA in Delhi.

“I’ll never set foot in India.” That was my first reaction when I was offered the opportunity to volunteer abroad.
And yet, six years ago, I left for India for the first time, planning to stay for four months. I had many prejudices and little interest in discovering a culture I didn’t know. But TARA Child Protection & Empowerment was the only organisation I found that felt trustworthy and genuinely focused on helping children.
Discovering TARA and falling in love with India
I arrived in New Delhi to support the NGO’s communication work. Founded by Pascal Fautrat, TARA works to protect, educate and empower children in vulnerable situations.
Thanks to the team’s dedication and their deep love for India, I quickly changed my perspective. I fell in love with this country of many contrasts — and with the children supported by TARA.
More than an NGO — a real second chance
TARA welcomes children into safe homes in New Delhi, offering a family-like environment, full medical care, access to education and the stability they need to rebuild their lives.
This is not just a description — it is a reality. Recently, I welcomed Shyamu, a former TARA boy, into my family during the festive season. Thanks to TARA’s support, he was admitted to one of India’s top design universities and even completed an exchange semester in France.
Supporting children’s futures
Stories like his show the long-term impact of protection, education and emotional support.
But giving children a real chance at a new life requires sustained financial support — and the commitment of people who believe in their potential.
