Vaishali Deshpande joins TARA’s Board of Directors
New board member Vaishali Deshpande shares how she first discovered TARA and her commitment to child protection.

A lawyer by profession, Vaishali Deshpande served on the Child Welfare Committee from 2017 to 2020. During this time, she became familiar with TARA through the work of its social workers and the quality of their child-focused reports.
She was particularly impressed by the organisation’s commitment to supporting children with complex needs, addressing psychological challenges and providing counselling when required. The dedication and responsiveness of the teams left a lasting impression.
Advocating for vulnerable children
Her experience at the Child Welfare Committee reinforced the importance of using professional skills and influence to support children whose voices are often unheard. Understanding the world from a child’s perspective is essential to providing meaningful protection and care.
She highlights the responsibility of adults and professionals to guide children through key stages of development, encouraging dialogue, emotional support and safe environments.
Believing in every child’s potential
For Vaishali Deshpande, encouraging children to recognise and develop their strengths from an early age is essential. A supportive environment helps shape confident and responsible adults who can contribute positively to society.
She also reflects on her own journey, having discovered her potential later in life — a perspective that strengthens her commitment to supporting children and families today.
Professional and personal commitment
Today, Vaishali practises law in criminal, civil and family cases, while also planning to expand into intellectual property to support researchers and innovators.
She continues to pursue personal learning goals, including studying Sanskrit and Hindi, embracing the idea that life is a continuous journey of growth and learning.
