A summer of adventure and discovery: TARA’s camp in Manali
From 15 to 19 June, children from TARA Homes experienced an unforgettable summer camp in Manali, combining nature exploration, environmental awareness and moments of connection and joy.
A group of 30 children and 10 staff members travelled to the mountains of Manali for a unique camp organised in collaboration with Healing Himalayas Foundation. The programme blended outdoor adventure, environmental action and cultural discovery.
Accommodation in large tents surrounded by apple orchards and pine forests was a first for many children. Sleeping under the stars, sharing spaces with friends and waking up to the sounds of nature created a strong sense of freedom and excitement.

Exploring nature and learning through experience
Each day offered new discoveries. The children hiked to sacred places such as Manu Temple and Hadimba Temple, walked along forest trails and riversides, and spent quiet moments by the Beas River.
They also took part in environmental clean-up drives organised with the Healing Himalayas team, collecting waste in forest areas and near tourist sites. Working together and turning the task into a friendly challenge, they learned about responsibility and respect for nature.

Moments of connection and joy
Rainy afternoons became opportunities for games, songs and shared laughter. One evening, a bonfire brought everyone together to dance, tell stories and enjoy the warmth of community under a starry sky.
The experience strengthened friendships and created a sense of belonging among the children and staff.

Growing through adventure
The trek to Jogini Falls was a highlight for many. The climb was challenging, but the breathtaking landscape and peaceful atmosphere made it unforgettable. It became a moment to reflect on dreams, hopes and the future.
More than a holiday, this summer camp offered children the chance to grow, explore and build lasting memories together in nature.
Support opportunities that help children grow
Experiences like this camp allow children to discover new environments, build confidence and create meaningful memories.
